C: Is clothing with a cause!

Eight teenage girls have found a way to step outside of their ordinary lives and become spectacular human beings by making jewelry to raise money to rescue children that have been sold into slavery in the fishing villages of Ghana. They donate 100 percent of their proceeds to the International Organization for Migration to rescue and provide 2 1/2 years of healthcare, food, education, counseling and love for each child. In 2002 watching Oprah and seeing an episode that showcased rescue missions they felt they had to do something. It started when they thought what if we only saved one child? What was a question became a company called "One is better than none" otherwise known as 1>0. They believed that if everyone did something, anything to help the world be a better place then it would all add up. It is such a simple concept but effective. So far these eight remarkable teens have raised enough money to sponsor eight rescue missions scheduled in January and over 600 children have been rescued so far. There are still hundreds more that need to be rescued. They started off with the jewelry and now have a clothing line. 20% of all boutique orders & 10% of all chain store & department store orders get donated to "1>0". To save a child costs approximately $4300. But it is cost effective for the International Organization for Migration to rescue 25 children at a time. So an exorbitant amount of money is needed to bring these children home sooner. The money covers the actual rescue which getting the children away from their owners. Then they are brought to an orphanage for rehabilitation, medical care, counseling, nutrition, education, clothing and love. Then they are reintegrated back into their families and communality and cared for 2 1/2 years.

The jewelry is made from eight wooden beads that represents the eight girls. The center bead is an authentic recycled glass bead from Ghana. Thousands of bracelets have been made and each one is numbered and initialized by the girl who made it. The necklaces are made in a group. The clothing is new! Kerry (Gillick-Goldberg) heard the teens through one of the moms. She had her own showroom that launched teen apparel lines. She thought that One is Greater than None was amazing and pitched the 1>0 concept to a Canadian manufacturer that was interested in developing an organic teen line. The match was perfect! AMCAN Charter Imports made styles that the girls really wear: hoodies, fleece dorm pants, organic football & crew tees! As of Feb 2008 you can officially buy 1>0 at Bloomingdale's. The website has a listing of all the boutiques nationwide that are carrying the line.

Their goals for the future include changing causes every year helping children in need but we are focused now on saving the fishing children in Ghana.

Anyone can make a difference and this shows you that is a F.A.C.T.
