S: Is for scientific F.A.C.T.S.

Maybe it's because I originate from California that I have always know about the Tectonic Plates and the puzzle theory. It has always fascinated me. I have also always loved science, at least the hands on portion. I looked forward to blowing up the volcano and and making cyclones in jars. With the recent earthquakes and tsunami's hitting the pacific shelf and at the rate it has been happening I decided to devote this column to the information available. Tectonic Plate comes from the Greek word for "one who constructs". It is a theory developed to explain the phenomenon of continental drift, and is currently the theory accepted by the vast majority of scientists working in this area. The Earth's interior is made up of two layers, the outer lithosphere and the inner asthenosphere. I know it sounds technical but read on. The lithosphere essentially "floats" on the asthenosphere and is broken-up into ten major plates: African, Antarctic, Australian, Eurasian, North American, South American, Pacific, Cocos, Nazca, and the Indian plates. These plates (and the more numerous minor plates) move in relation to one another at one of three types of plate boundaries: convergent (two plates push against one another), divergent (two plates move away from each other), and transform (two plates slide past one another). Earthquakes, volcanic activity, mountain-building, and oceanic trench formation occur along plate boundaries (most notably around the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire). Plate tectonic theory arose out of two separate geological observations: continental drift, noticed in the early 20th century, and seafloor spreading, noticed in the 1960s. Paleontologists found fossils of similar species on continents that are now separated by great geographic distance. These observations indicate that the Earth's lithosphere had been moving over geologic time. Paramagnetic studies, which examine the Earth's past magnetic field, showed that the magnetic north pole seemingly wanders all over the globe. This means that the plates are moving. The fact that lithospheric plates have moved in the past and are still in motion today is beyond dispute, but the exact mechanisms of how and why they move continue to challenge scientists and is becoming a threat! Below the crust is the mantle, a dense, hot layer approximately 2,900 kilometers (1,802 miles) thick. At the center of the Earth lies the core, which is composed of an iron–nickel alloy. It is divided into two regions—a liquid outer core and solid inner core. As the Earth rotates, the liquid inner core spins, creating the Earth's magnetic field. In the 1950s, scientists began recognizing magnetic variations in the rocks of the ocean floor. This was not entirely unexpected, since it was known that basalt contained the mineral magnetite, and this mineral was known to locally distort compass readings. This is one of the reasons people get lost in the Bermuda Triangle. The magnetic force there is one of the strongest on earth. If new crust is continually being formed at mid-ocean ridges, and the Earth is not increasing in size, what is happening to the old crust? When two oceanic plates collide, one plate is subducted beneath the other, because the continental crust is lighter and less dense. Basically it is the domino theory. I enclose a map of the tectonic plates. 4 and 1/2 weeks ago in the Pacific, Japan experienced an earthquake and a Tsunami. Last Sunday this tragic occurence repeated itself in the Solomon Islands. What is next in this line-up. I will let you make your own conclusions but tectonic plates are a F.A.C.T and we need to be warned. Since our government fails at protecting it's people we need to become knowledgeable. Science though technical can save our lives and those of our friends.

T: Is for things I like which would definitely include Crystals

I have always had an affinity for crystals. They speak to me, they enhance my well being and they draw those I need to learn from or teach to me. While at the New Life Expo I met a women who liked the crystal I had on and wanted me to wear one of hers which I did for 3 days. Each day people were drawn to me and always asked me about the crystals which I joyfully shared. Donna Reyna Joy Sessler is the designer of "INSPIRATIONS" a spiritual jewelry collection from Boulder, Co. Her exquisite crystals radiate and called for you to touch, and experience their energy. Donna a native New Yorker and an avid country traveler, currently shares her time living in Colorado, New Mexico, and New York. Spiritually attuned, and a teacher and master of jewelry design, she teaches and shares what she knows in jewelry, kinesiology and is a Reiki healer. She is truly gifted in many areas. Her aesthetic sense is combined with a love and respect for the gem stones and sterling silver she embeds them in. Each is infused with an energy that speaks the moment you pick them up. I thought with this column I would add some of the metaphysical properties of crystals to help you understand more of the art of what makes Donna's jewelry so unique. Wearing different crystals singularly or in various combinations with other crystals enhances the properties of your crystal and creates powerful sequences of helpful connections with the Universe. Crystals are able to carry out a set of instruction. Each crystal is like a computer with a database in which we put in the programming. Generally crystals are programed for Peace, Love, and Prosperity. You can however add your own programming, with your own specific purposes, like Protection, Enhancing dreams, Positive Abundance, or Help with Decisions. Crystals can hold as many programs as there are sides to them. So be careful of your unconscious programming. If you feel overwhelmed by unwanted thoughts, clear your mind. I leave you with some of the properties crystals carry so you can get an idea of why they are so popular.

C: Is for climate warnings

CNN states, our climate is about to drastically change some may disappear entirely. These changes endanger an array of plants and animals while providing new opportunities for others. On the endangered list the polar bear. The world's leading climate scientists, report that "warming of the climate system is unequivocal, as it is now evident from observation of the increasing levels in the worlds air and ocean temperatures. Widespread melting of snow and ice and the rising sea levels also are a contributor." Tropical regions in particular are facing change, particularly the rain forests in the Amazon and Indonesia. This was surprising, since the tropics tend to have little variation in weather. With a temperature change of 3 or 4 degrees these regions will face more of an impact than a change of 5 to 8 degrees in a region that is accustomed to change. Areas like the Southeastern United States and the Arabian Peninsula will also be affected. Mountain areas such as in Peruvian and Colombian Andes and regions such as Siberia and southern Australia face the risk of climates disappearing altogether. This means their climate would change and the conditions currently in these areas would not occur elsewhere on Earth.

Today the 2007 Atlantic hurricane season report came out and its news is scary. They expect a "very active," season with at least one major hurricane hitting the U.S. coast. Forecaster William Gray said he expects 17 named storms, five major hurricanes with sustained winds of 111 mph or greater. The probability of a major hurricane making landfall, 74 percent. The average was 52 percent in recent years. In the absence of El Niño, "winds aren't tearing the storm systems apart and conditions this year are likely to be more conducive to hurricanes," The team's forecasts are based on global oceanic and atmospheric conditions. The Atlantic hurricane season, runs from June 1 to November 30.

The reason for this column is because two weeks ago we had an earthquake and then a tsunami in Japan. Sunday another earthquake triggered a tsunami warning for a huge part of the Pacific including Australia and Indonesia. The U.S. National Weather Service said its West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center issued an advisory for residents along the California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, and Alaska's coast, but it said a damaging tsunami was not expected in that area. The tsunami did hit and The Solomon Islands many of whose houses were on stilts are sitting on the ground. A number of the coastal communities have been completely wiped out. We live on what is known as tectonic plates and once they are jared it has a splintering affect. Right now the Pacific rim and all those on its course face danger. First Japan, then The Solomon Islands. All of these have being effected in a two week period of time. Friday's column will be on the Tectonic Plates and why this information is important. We should all know the F.A.C.T.S

A: Is for hanging gardens

The invitation read: The Hanging Garden of Pulp (Construkt #4), opens today at The Girbaud Store in Soho and features British artist Zoe Bradley and is curated by Sebastien Agneessens. Your music for the evening will be provided by DJ Rekka. Oh and don't forget to RSVP.

Now as I said I'd never heard of Girbaud (see last Wednesday's column) nor Zoe Bradley so when I arrived what awaited me was a origami version of a cross between "Alice and Wonderland" and "The Secret Garden". Mobiles of brightly construckted immense violet, yellow and white flowers where streaming in circular motion everywhere. Zoe Bradley's magical mobiles were for sale for approximately $3,500 a piece. I can think of many a child, children's hospital and or lobby being transported with unabashed delight. There was also an assortment of fashionable hats each going for $1,800. I immediately thought of the costume balls of the MET and the Hampton's. The proceeds were all being donated to "Seeds of Peace" (see Friday's column)

You start to wonder especially when you research the background of Ms. Bradley is it art? Or is it fashion? It could quite possibly be sculpture - but whatever your opinion you can not deny the visual drama of Zoe Bradley’s work. Described as a showpiece designer Bradley’s striking creations have been featured in editorials, advertising campaigns, window displays and fashion shows. Alexander McQueen collaborated with her for his Spring/Summer 1999 collection and Moschino followed suit. Bradley adores the linear, clean cut medium of paper, everything is handcrafted a combination of sharp graphic lines and delicate fragility making her work all the more irresistible. Marithé and François Girbaud started "CONSTRUKT" as a seasonal series of touring exhibitions and offering limited editions created by leading designers. Each presentation reflects another aspect of the Girbaud’s fashion explorations, marketing and environmental campaigns through art and objects. “We have always worked with architects and designers in applying our philosophy and in providing an environment for our clothing. Antonia Astori, Kristian Gavoille and Patrick Norguet have provided powerful and lasting ideas that have marked each period. Working with talented filmmakers, choreographers and photographers (Jean-Luc Godard, Futura 2000, Bring’n da Funk, Bring’n da Noise, de La Guarda, le Cirque du Soleil…), has equally influenced our designs. In Milan, in 2001, we tried to capture light with Italian artist Vedovamazzei who created a special installation for this purpose given rhythm by the sun’s heart-beats. It had already become necessary to use laser, which occupies an important place in our work. Light, water, fire, ultrasound, elemental molecular structures themselves, are among the new technologies enabling us to go further in designing the factory and apparel of the 21st century. It has becomes a bridge for us, a new way to communicate our approach. Creation should no longer be the prerogative of museums and galleries, it is becoming democratic and we wish to share it with all".

The delights of "The Hanging Gardens of Pulp” as well as the other things I have described can be found in Soho at 47 Wooster. I promise you a trip into childhood and that's a F.A.C.T.

F: Is for Fact or Fiction

This weekend I helped my friend Joshua Bloom at the New Life Expo at the New Yorker Hotel. This new age fair happens twice a year. Once at Thanksgiving and the weekend before Easter. It contains the newest healing techniques both in lectures and in products. Some last and some don't. Joshua is one of the foremost Quantum Healers. Deepak Chopra coined the phrase and has written several books on the subject but Joshua took it one step further. Quantum Energy Transference is a life-changing process that helps build and maintain a healthy, whole, and fulfilling life. Using the mind he shows clients how to ground his or her body, using the power of the senses to help attain optimal health and lifelong wellness instantly. He teaches how to move the energy which causes problems at the cellular level of the body. This creates permanent change by restructuring the cellular tissue and ultimately helps clients release the root and cause of illness. QET activates the innate intelligence of the body to heal itself. Everyone embodies everything you require to become healthy and well. Once you understand how your body naturally heals itself and how to easily turn on this healing mechanism, you obtain the freedom desired! The foundation is built with the understanding of Quantum Physics. The body stores information as packets of energy in the cells, almost like a cellular journal. Our brain notes down everything we experience into our cells. Some of these notations are useful while other notations limit our lives or cause 'dis-ease'. When processed, all of the information (energy) becomes useful. Healing takes place on three levels: body, mind and spirit. In moving the energy at the root cause of any issue our healing process is fast and produces amazing results. Joshua has worked with individuals on issues like: fibromyalgia, anxiety, arthritis, depression, fears & phobias, procrastination, emotional trauma, smoking cessation and more. The wonderful thing about Josh is that not only does he heal as a practitioner he teaches what he knows and now has come up with a kit that is cheaper and allows the individual to do what he knows. Healers will tell you if they are on the up and up that they are only guides, that the real healer is you. We all have the ability within to heal ourselves. He also gives workshops to help live your life without the "stuck". Many times in life we feel stuck because we feel like we have NO choices available to us. He also offers the following certification programs: NLP, QET, Hypnosis, Reiki, EFT, and Life and Business Coaching. I have known Joshua for years and I can attest he is for real. He is teaching a small workshop this Wednesday from 7-9 log onto www.quantumhealingcenter.com to learn more.

While I was there I also discovered a company with the best format to eat vegetables I have ever found. Now don't get me wrong I love vegetables however lately I have been on the run or on the set of a new TV Pilot and my eating habits are disgraceful. Whole food farmacy has several products that thrilled my taste buds as well as my nutritional habits. Veggielicious Spice is a spicy, crunchy alternative to traditional snack foods. It's a combination of 12 low pressure dried ingredients: Maize Corn, Sweet Corn, Potatoes, Peas, Tomatoes, Carrots, Green Beans, Zucchini, Broccoli, Red Peppers, Green Onions, Green Peppers, & their own Cajun Spice blend. This complete meal is packaged as a convenient snack and contains everything you need to stay energized throughout the day, the healthy way and the best news which comes in two parts is: 89 calories a serving and it fills you up. TropiPhi is a great source of fiber, protein, and unsaturated fats (good fats). It contains all natural fibers and no cholesterol. All sugars are raw and "complex" for slow digestion. TropiPhi is a delicious tropical treat handcrafted from macadamia nuts, walnuts, brazil nuts, pineapple, papaya, mango, bananas, coconut flakes, brown rice, & orange oil. All ingredients are raw. It tastes like cookie dough and with only 222 calories it is a great way to curb a sweet tooth. You can also find them on-line at www.surehealth.wholefoodfarmacy.com

Now with every column I have found these to be F.A.C.T.S but xplore them yourselves and you too will see ....or not but you will have discovered for yourself F.A.C.T or fiction.
