C: Is for Cinema and Couture

The Tribeca Film Festival moves uptown this year for the first time.

A two-week long event from April 18 – May 5 celebrates a joint salute to the 40th Anniversary of the NYC Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre & Broadcasting. Windows from participating boutiques will spotlight selected films showing at this year’s festival which runs from April 25 – May 6. Strolling along Madison from 57th to 86th Street boutiques will act as a preview to the forth coming event. Each of the stores has “adopted” a TFF film they will showcase in their windows, in store exhibitions, and private receptions with a percentage of sales benefiting the Tribeca Film Institute. The event is sponsored by American Express and presented by the Madison Avenue Business Improvement District.

The Tribeca Film Festival partnered stores with an exceptional selection of films that capture the spirit of the brands. For example, Oilily chose “Planet B-Boy.” Cartier selected “The Air I Breathe.” DKNY opted for “Education of Charlie Banks.” Calypso went romantic with “2 Days in Paris”, while Joseph went dramatic with “You Kill Me.” Judith Leiber partnered with “My Best Friend” and Mulberry matched up with “Golden Door.” Lockes Diamonds will showcase “Anita O’Day,” and Eileen Fisher will spotlight “Beyond Belief.” Movies on Madison kicks off on Wednesday, April 18, with a press walk up Madison Avenue attended by Tribeca Film Festival founder Jane Rosenthal and the MOFTB Commissioner Katherine Oliver. That evening, participating boutiques will be holding kick-off celebrations in honor of their adopted films and featured actors, directors and producers are expected to attend. In addition, tickets will go on sale to the public at a 2007 Tribeca Film Festival at special box office at the Hotel Plaza Athenee at 37 East 64th Street at Madison Avenue, which will be open daily from 2 p.m. – 8 p.m. through May 5.

I am looking forward to seeing an intimate and deeply moving tribute to jazz diva extraordinaire Anita O'Day, completed just weeks before her death in November 2006. The Tribeca Film Festival was New York's answer to a devastating 911. Movies on Madison follows with this tradition in supporting New York. Some of the films that were Academy nominees were first shown at the festival. This year check out the free screenings for "Spiderman 3". As you explore the festival's events remember you heard it here and that's a F.A.C.T.
